Day 7 of 7
Day 7: Walking in the Light of His Finished Work
Walking in the Light: A 7-Day Journey from Circumstance to Covenant
Anchor Scriptures
Hebrews 4:9–10 (KJV)
“There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.”
The Rest Reflection
All week, you have been invited to walk in the light, keep your eyes on Jesus, and pray from faith. This invitation is never a demand for self-improvement; God transferred you into the kingdom of His Son entirely through the saving work of Christ. On the cross, Jesus declared, "It is finished," meaning you do not manufacture your own spiritual strength. Just as God rested on the seventh day, you now cease from your own works, stop trying to hold yourself in the light by human effort, and rest completely in what He has already accomplished.
Today's Confession of Rest
Father, I thank You that I have been delivered from the power of darkness and translated into the Kingdom of Your dear Son. I walk in the light of God's Word, and avoid the frustrations of unexpected messes, the weight of hidden distractions, and the grip of irritation. Jesus, You are the lamp to my feet and the light to my path.
The Table of Remembrance
Prepare a small piece of bread and a small cup of juice. Quiet your heart, move from striving to receiving, and partake deliberately.
Reverent Self-Examination & Blessing
in 1 Corinthians 11:27–29, Paul calls us to examine ourselves and discern the Lord’s body. This examination is not to earn a place at the table; Christ has already made you welcome through His finished work. It is a response to grace where you let Holy Spirit expose any pull of darkness, refuse that agreement, and turn back toward the light. Come with reverence, not fear, because the One who examines your heart has already made you His.
The Bread Reflection
On the night He was betrayed, Jesus took bread, gave thanks, broke it, and said, “This is my body which is given for you.” After the meal, He and His disciples sang the hymn from Psalms 118 before going out to the Mount of Olives. He walked toward Gethsemane and the cross with Scripture and praise on His lips. As you hold this bread, remember that His body was given so you could be brought out of darkness and into His light. He is the Bread of Life, and His self-giving love is the source of your life. Again, you do not have to keep yourself in the light by your own human strength. You receive life from Him.
Partaking Declaration: “Lord, as we take this bread, You said, ‘Remember Me.’ We remember the covenant. We remember the joy. We remember the peace. We remember Your presence. We thank You for it. In Jesus’ name, we take the bread, and we worship You.”
The Cup Reflection
Jesus took the cup after supper and said, “This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.” One way of understanding the Passover meal sees the Last Supper and Calvary as one continuous act of covenant sacrifice, with the meal pointing to the cross and the cross bringing the meal to completion when He said, “It is finished.” Whether or not you follow that symbolism, the central truth is the same: His shed blood established the new covenant. Your forgiveness, your access to God, and your identity in the covenant rest on what Christ has done. When condemnation tries to pull you back toward darkness, you do not pretend you have never failed. You remember the blood of the covenant and receive forgiveness.
Partaking Declaration: “Lord, with this cup we worship you and receive your completed work. We take this cup.”
Series Closing Prayer
Lord, keep my eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and finisher of my faith. Strengthen me through Your Word and keep me alert and anchored by Your Spirit. Let Your glory shine through my daily life as I pray, rejoice, and give thanks. Help me carry Your light to those who are wandering in darkness and thirsty, and rest in Your finished work. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
