Day 4 of 7
Day 4: Receive the Shepherd's Care in Sorrow
Shuttering the Past: A 7-Day Journey Forward in the Father's Love
Anchor Scriptures
Psalm 23:3-4 (KJV)
He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.
Devotional Reading
Moving forward does not mean rushing through grief. Loss can leave you carrying questions, weariness, and memories that need patient attention. Psalm 23 gives you words about a valley without pretending the valley is easy. The Shepherd's presence offers comfort while you walk through it.
You can bring your sorrow into prayer without having an explanation for what happened. Read slowly, allowing the words "thou art with me" to become a personal expression of trust. Ask the Lord to restore your soul and guide your next steps. Receiving His care may also include allowing someone trustworthy to listen and walk beside you.
Today's Confession
The Lord is my Shepherd. He restores my soul and leads me in paths of righteousness. Even when I walk through a valley, He is with me. I entrust my sorrows and unanswered questions to Him, receive the comfort of His presence, and welcome the care of those He places beside me.
5-Minute Journal Prompt
What sorrow or loss needs your honest attention before God, and which words from Psalm 23 speak most directly to that need?
Prayer Activation Exercise
Read Psalm 23 aloud at an unhurried pace. Pause over a phrase that speaks to your present circumstances and respond to it in your own words. If someone else is grieving, pray for their comfort and consider offering a gentle word of care.
